How to Obtain WNKY-CBS

Tonight is the big night! Are you ready?

But are YOU ready to watch the game tonight? Did you know CBS is available over the air?

If you are on Insight Cable, you can already receive WNKY-CBS on channel 10, or in high definition, if you subscribe to the high definition package, on channel 912. WNKY-CBS is also available now on Glasgow’s Electric Plant Board Cable system, as well as WKU’s campus cable system.

But what can you do to receive WNKY-CBS if you are not on one of these cable systems?

Unfortunately, some of the cable systems and the major satellite providers have yet to put WNKY-CBS on their system. However, all is not lost! WNKY-CBS is also available over-the air.

In order to view WNKY-CBS over the air, you will need the following:

A television set with digital tuner built-in
-OR-
A digital converter box connected to your television set.

-AND-
Depending on your location, a set-top antenna or outdoor antenna, preferably with unobstructed view towards Smiths Grove, which is located about 20 miles northeast of Bowling Green.

If you already have a digital television with built-in tuner, insure your antenna is properly pointed and tune to 40-2. You may need to scan for channels, depending on your brand of TV, or you may be able to “force-tune” by initially tuning to 16-1 or 16-2. If you have a locked signal, your set should automatically update to channel 40-1 or 40-2. (40-1 is WNKY-NBC.) If you tune to 40-1, then you should be able to channel up to 40-2 at this time, or press 4-0-2 (some sets require you to press the “dot” key.)

Antenna placement and pointing is very critical in digital television. Sometimes a matter of inches will mean the difference between a good quality picture and no picture. If you are lucky enough to have a signal monitor built-in to your set, this will help you position  your antenna, if not, then it will be hit or miss until you find that sweet spot. The clearer the view towards Smith Grove, free of walls and other buildings, in the proper direction, the quicker you will tune WNKY. If your view is not clear, keep trying, as you may be able to find a “bounced” signal off from another building or structure. An inline amplifier between your set and antenna may also help boost the signal to your set.

If you do not yet own a digital television and cannot afford one, all is not lost. You can obtain a digital conversion box at Best Buy, Walmart, or Radio Shack, as well as some other retailers around the area for $50-100. If you applied for your coupon from the government and received this already, you can save $40 off this cost. 

Once you obtain your digital conversion box, connect it to your TV set by following the instructions included. Connect the antenna to the box, and then follow the directions above on properly pointing the antenna and tuning in the signal.

Congratulations! Now you can receive some of the best programming available, WNKY-NBC and WNKY-CBS – and with no monthly fees and a digital quality picture! ENJOY THE GAME!
