Summer ScrapbookRadar's Super Summer Scrapbook!
![]() ![]() - A look back at Radar's and WNKY's Summertime Fun - by Jay Brandon May
Dishman-McGinnis Elementary School Radar, Kristi Fox and I helped teach the students about weather on their last full day of school. Radar performed numerous tricks upon request of the class: walking around the room on his two hind legs, shaking hands, rolling over, playing dead, opening doors (still working on that one) and of course saying hello and goodbye. We also went outside where students learned a little about types of clouds. We hope to visit again this year! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() June Hill's Anniversary Radar was invited to be the Guest of Honor for the anniversary celebration at the Hill's pet food plant in Bowling Green. Jim, his daughter Adrianna and I enjoyed meeting all the employees and others in the community. There were tours of the plant, yummy food and tons of games and rides for the kids. Broadway the Clown also made an appearance. Thanks to Hill's for inviting us... we hope to be able to come back to their next anniversary celebration! Special thanks to WNKY's Heather Davidson for pictures in the below section.
June Plano Baptist Church What fun we had! Kristi Fox, Radar and I drove out to Plano where we helped out with the Vacation Bible School Kickoff Carnival at Plano Baptist Church. This was an old-fashioned themed carnival with piano music and singing. We all gathered around while eating delicious hot dogs, burgers, homemade ice cream and Hawaiian ice (which Radar scarfed up!). Radar's favorite activity was trying to catch those giant bubbles that Kristi made!
July Survivor Casting Call Over 100 auditions were sent in to CBS courtesy of WNKY for next year's season of the hit reality show "Survivor". The Total Fitness Connection tennis complex (air-conditioned), Chick-Fil-A, Coca-Cola and many other sponsors helped make the waiting times a bit more comfortable as we were in the middle of a heat wave. Radar enjoyed meeting every one who tried out for the show. Most of all... he was in heaven chasing all those tennis balls! SOKY Fair Radar, Jim, his family and I were invited to attend this year's Southern Kentucky Fair. We had a blast with all the rides... though Radar was quite upset due to the height restrictions on most rides. :) We let Radar play a few games with his favorite being the duck hunt. He wanted to get in that pool and splash around! Radar also got to press the button at the dunking booth! Before we left, Radar insisted on meeting some of the cows at the livestock show. Perhaps that's his natural instinct to watch the farm animals as he is a Border Collie afterall. We enjoyed meeting everyone and thank you to the SOKY Fair team for a great time. Duncan Hines Festival This year's Duncan Hines Festival in downtown Bowling Green had a huge turnout. Radar instantly made new friends as shown in the first picture below. He then had a fascination with the water fountain... wanting to jump in most likely as it was a bit hot. Of course, Skip Bond and the Fugitives provided some relaxing entertainment as we all laid out on the grass. August College Suites It's back to school time for Western students! Radar and I greeted those moving into College Suites for the upcoming semester. Greg Fotos and Teresa Faulkner were also in attendance... Radar couldn't get enough of the water mister fan that Teresa brought! Global Fest In The Barrens This was one of the funnest events of the Summer... in Glasgow, Kentucky! Kristi Fox, her husband Scott, Radar and I represented WNKY as one of the sponsors for Global Fest in the Barrens. There was so much to do there... ranging from viewing classic cars, antiques, art exhibits, collectibles, train and horse carriage rides... the list goes on and on. Most of all, meeting the people of Glasgow was a treat in itself. And, it wasn't just those from Glasgow and Bowling Green who attended as some came from several states away to see the uniqueness of this festival. We helped sign up people for our weekly Dinner and a Movie contest, gave away WNKY mugs/umbrellas/hats/magazines and Hardee's coupons to those who came by our booth. Radar enjoyed the festival too as Kristi took him on a carriage ride! He also loved playing frisbee as shown near the last pictures. If you're ever driving by our station, you might see Radar and Kristi or I throwing the frisbee around with him... it's his favorite game. In fact, we go through about a frisbee a week as he chews them up to where they won't fly! Someone also played a special Harmonica song just for Radar in the last picture. More to come!!! Continue to check out Kristi's and my blog for more pictures of Radar's adventures throughout South Central Kentucky.
