Weekend Problems02/19/2007 Weekend Problems Good day everyone. I hope everyone had a safe weekend. I thought I'd take a few minutes to update you on the weekend problems we experienced. Friday night we experienced a software glitch in our automation computer which caused us to not properly switch our audio on the NBC HDTV channel (DTV channel 40.1 and Bowling Green's Insight Cable channel 906.) I received a patch to the software this morning, so hopefully this has been remedied. Saturday, many of you were without WNKY. Unfortunately, it was out of our hands. Our transmitter is located outside Smith Grove. Saturday morning there was a vehicle accident, where the vehicle struck a power pole, leaving our transmitter site without power for about 3 hours late Saturday morning, into the afternoon. Usually this would not affect us for this extended amount of time, but recently, the radiator in our back-up power generator went out and is being repaired. Talk about bad timing... Hopefully we will get the radiator back and reinstalled this week. WNKY programming is run by numerous computer systems. Normally they run without problems, but I guess, like people, computers can have bad days and just not work as they should. Friday's problem is an example. Television is not an easy science anymore, getting everything to work together can be difficult at times. Years ago, before computerized systems, the problems were not as defined and easily tolerated. Today, we try to bring you the best crystal-clear picture, and multiple channel audio, no matter how far you live from our transmitter. When all our systems work together, you can get the same quality picture as we see in our studios, provided your watching one of our digital channels. Analog television (channel 40) is still subject to reception problems due to weather and distance. Recently WNKY had me build a new control room for our broadcasts. Overall, there have been relatively few problems, but with any new system, we have had, and probably will have a few more, problems. But this is our effort to bring you the best quality picture and sound possible. Please bear with us while we work through any problems that may arise. We are not quite complete yet with the installation, although we have moved to the new system. That's it for this entry today. I wish everyone the best in the week ahead. -Frank Most Popular |
