
Barren River Lake State Resort Park Starts Recycling Program

Barren River Lake State Resort Park , be on the look out for a recycling bin. And if you have something that can be recycled, please use it! The park near
Barren County solid waste program, city of Glasgow and Central Kentucky PRIDE (Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment Program). A recycling container was placed at the park and the staff has identified items that can be recycled. Paper, plastic, aluminum, steel cans and cardboard will now be sent to the recycling bin instead of the dumpster.
“Not only will these efforts help us become more environmentally conscious and keep trash out of the landfill, it should help with our expense on dumpster pickups since there will be less trash in the dumpster and will not have to be picked up as often,” said Park Manager Monica Conrad.
A “dumpster dive” was recently conducted by the county solid waste program in which five bags of trash were pulled from a park dumpster. After the contents were sorted, officials determined that 82 percent of the contents could be recycled.

Special bags are also provided in lodge rooms and cabins so guests can help with the recycling effort at the park.
