Area governments and even residents are being encouraged to apply for energy efficiency programs that might help lower their utility bills. Brent Childers, a grant reviewer for the Barren River Area Development District, told leaders gathered Monday that the state Department of Local Government has about $6.2 million available for government energy efficiency projects.

The current wave of H1N1 influenza in Kentucky appears to have reached its peak and, while that is good news, the flu is still widespread and well above the normal level of activity that is typically seen this time of year, Kentucky public health officials said Monday.

Local attorney Flora Templeton Stuart launched The Arts Education Task Force in August to begin programs for "exceptional" needs children. The first program will be in January and will involve several weeks of artists providing sessions for about 30 students. In the end, they will showcase their work and receive awards from the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
