Thousands of shoppers filled area stores early this morning for Black Friday, the day that kicks off the holiday shopping season.

Warren County’s unemployment rate jumped from 9.3 percent in September to 10.3 percent last month, according to data released from the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. The Bowling Green MSA, which is made up of the city and parts of Warren and Edmonson counties, also increased from 9.6 percent to 10.5 percent in October, a result of many local people who filed continued unemployment insurance claims last month.

The Warren County Public Library will begin canned food for fines on Dec. 1. When patrons bring in a can they get a $1 credit toward any accrued fines.
