Government buildings around the region will be
sporting a new flag over the next year. Senior
Commander, Colonel Dominic J. Caraccilo, from Fort
Campbell passed out the flags from the Army post,
with the 101st Airborne Division’s Screaming Eagle.
Regional leaders received the flags at
Monday’s Barren River Area Development District
meeting. Caraccilo says it’s the post commander’s
mission to get out into the communities impacted by
Fort Campbell to both thank them and to ask for their
continued support.

More than two-thousand residents in Warren County
live more than five miles from a fire station. This
distance can lead to insurance rates of up to
30-percent higher than those who live closer to
stations. The City-County Planning Commission has
generated a map showing these areas and have
distributed them to the fire chiefs over each of the nine county
volunteer fire departments. The executive director
for the planning commission, Steve Hunter, says
Insurance companies were using MapQuest or Google
Maps to route how response would be. The estimated 89 square miles in the county not within five miles of a station is either a flood
plain or farmland, and the cost for bringing it in
can’t be justified.
