FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings remain at half-staff in honor of 2nd Lt. Tracy Lynn Alger.

According to the Department of Defense, 2nd Lt. Alger, 30, of New Auburn, Wis., died Nov. 1 in Shubayshen, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near her vehicle. She was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of 2nd Lt. Alger’s funeral, for which arrangements are incomplete.

Individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute by lowering flags in honor of 2nd Lt. Alger.

Flags are currently at half-staff through sunset tonight in honor of Master Sgt. Thomas L. Bruner, 50, of Owensboro, who died Oct. 28 in Kabul, Afghanistan from a non-combat related illness. He was assigned to the Headquarters, 2nd Brigade, 100th Division, U.S. Army Reserve, Owensboro. Master Sgt. Bruner’s funeral was today.

Flags are also currently at half-staff  in honor of Sgt. Louis A. Griese, 30, of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., who died Oct. 31 in Tikrit, Iraq, of injuries sustained north of Samarra when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.  He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell. Funeral arrangements for Sgt. Griese are incomplete.
