Bowling Green Fire Department Responds To Mid-Day Gas Line Rupture

On Monday, March 10, 2008 at 12:04 p.m., the Bowling Green Fire Department responded to a reported gas line rupture at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Steeplechase Way.  Arriving units were informed that a construction crew had ruptured the 6” natural gas line while digging.

Bowling Green Fire Department personnel and members of the Kentucky State Highway Department blocked access to Lovers Lane.  Bowling Green Fire Department Personnel then went door to door in the Steeplechase Way area to about a dozen homes to advise residents to stay indoors and keep all windows and doors shut.  The area was monitored with gas detection meters and no significant readings were found in the area surrounding the rupture.

Atmos Energy officials dug multiple holes on opposite sides of the line and proceeded to stop the leak.  Three Bowling Green Fire Department units and 9 personnel responded to the incident.
