The City of Bowling Green Begins Sidewalk Project

Bowling Green, KYBowling Green City Government is working hard to develop new sidewalks throughout the City.  The City budgeted $1.25 million dollars in FY 08 to begin a comprehensive new sidewalk construction program.

This construction is planned to take place in two phases with additional work being done by the Public Works Operations Division.  Various locations throughout town are receiving sidewalks.

In March of 2008, Charles Deweese Construction of Franklin, KY was awarded the contract to begin phase I of the construction project.  This $475,000 project includes new sidewalks in a variety of locations downtown among other areas.  Phase I is expected to take approximately 3 months and consist of just over 8,000 linear feet of sidewalk. Construction will begin the week of April 14, 2008.

Bids for phase II are opening on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 2 p.m.  The bid will be awarded in the beginning of May.  Phase II is also expected to take approximately three months and will consist of almost 5,000 linear feet.

Locations were ranked based on a variety of criteria such as feasibility, how close to a school the sidewalk would be, and whether or not the sidewalk could fill a gap between two existing sidewalks.

Over the past four months, affected property owners were contacted for a series of open houses to review the designs plans.
