Today On Bowling Green TODAY 8/26/2010
Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Republican Leader made a stop in Bowling Green yesterday for the city’s chamber breakfast. He spoke about the president's White House agenda and the future of the untied states. Other topics included the national deficit, the heath care bill, and the economic crisis. McConnell also took questions from those in attendance and stressed the importance of upcoming November election. A funding stream for the downtown redevelopment district is being held up in the nation’s capital. This is causing the city’s Single-Purpose Entity II to build a ten million dollar financial bridge. The S-P-E is banking on a federal tax credit program as a major source of funding for a large capital project near WKU known as Block 12. SPE’s monthly meeting on Tuesday approved borrowing ten million dollars through bond anticipation notes. The final closing on the anticipation notes is scheduled for September 24th. The Downtown Redevelopment Authority is hoping to put a little more sparkle in the downtown area for the holidays. The authority will evaluate the light displays later this week that were once set out at Christmas at Basil Griffin Park. The D-R-A president says the lights have been in two tractor-trailers for about five years with the founder of Prime Time donating the lights to the D-R-A. City workers will evaluate the lights and see how much it would take to get them back in working order. |
