Hilltoppers Drop Doubleheader To Troy On Saturday
Bowling Green, Ky. — After winning a series against #14 Louisiana-Lafayette, the Western Kentucky University softball team dropped a doubleheader against Troy in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday at the WKU Softball Complex. The Hilltoppers dropped game one 7-3 and then fell in game two 5-1. Troy (22-15, 7-4 in SBC action) grabbed a quick lead in game one as Tanya McLean doubled to the left field wall that scored two to put the Trojans up 3-0 after the first inning. The Hilltoppers (14-18, 7-4 in SBC) gave up four more runs in the third including a Katie Taber single to right field that scored two runs to push the lead to 7-0. WKU cut the gap to four runs on a three-run blast from Lindsay Antone in the sixth that scored Rachelle Boucher and Brittney Perry. The homer was Antone’s ninth of the year and she has collected 19 RBI. Ashlyn Williams improved her record to 17-8 on the year after allowing just four hits and three runs while striking out eight batters. Heidi Johnson and Courtney Davis each collected two hits. Jennifer Kempf (5-7) took the loss after seven innings of work while tallying six strikeouts. The Trojans jumped on the scoreboard early in the second game, just like the first, with a two-run home run to right field by Davis. The Toppers climbed back in the bottom of the first as Rebecca Horesky hit a towering double off the center field wall, scoring Perry. Antone tried to tie the game on the double at two runs each but was thrown out at the plate. Troy put the game away in the fourth on a solo shot by McLean, her second on the season, to push the lead to 4-1. Williams (18-8) picked up her second win of the afternoon in relief going 4.2 innings, giving up only two hits and no runs. Davis went 3-for-3 for the game and collected a total of five hits for the day. Ryan Rogge (9-10) took the loss after a complete game on eight hits and six runs, while striking out seven. Horesky added two hits for WKU. The Hilltoppers and Trojans will wrap up the three-game set on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the WKU Softball Complex. Most Popular |
