
WKU Swimmer Sean Penhale Picks Up Two Gold Medals At Canadian Summer Nationals
Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University swimmer Sean Penhale capped off the 2008 Candian Summer Nationals by picking up gold medals in both the 800 meter Freestyle and in the 800 meter relay. In addition, the junior posted personal-best times in the 200, 400, 800 and 1500 meter freestyle. In the 800 meter freestyle, the Alberta, Canada native posted a time of 7:22.59 to clinch his first ever Canadian title. His time was not only good enough for the gold but was almost ten seconds faster than the second place finisher . He added another gold medal to his collection in the 800 meter relay with swimmers from the Island Swimming group. The group recorded a time of 7:22.59 to finish first. Penhale, who holds the WKU school record in both the 1000 meter and 1650 meter freestyle, finished second in the 1500 meter freestyle with a time of 15:42.47. Additionally, he picked up a third place finish at the competition in the 400 meter freestyle while placing 12th in the 200 meter freestyle. "Sean continues to improve each year which is all due to his determination and outstanding work ethic," head coach Bruce Marchionda said. "What a great way for Sean to end his sophomore season." |
