Cecil named defensive backs coach; Robertson added to staff
NASHVILLE, TN, March 9, 2007 — The Tennessee Titans promoted Chuck Cecil to defensive backs coach and named Marcus Robertson as assistant secondary coach. Cecil, entering his seventh season on the Titans coaching staff after spending 2001-2003 as a defensive assistant and the last three seasons overseeing the Titans safeties and nickel backs replaces Everett Withers as the Titans defensive backs coach. Withers left to become defensive coordinator at the University of Minnesota in January. Cecil, a hard-nosed safety during his playing days in the NFL spent his seven-year career with the Green Bay Packers (1988-92), Phoenix Cardinals (1993) and Houston Oilers (1995). He earned a trip to the Pro Bowl and garnered All-Madden status in 1992. The University of Arizona product was originally drafted by the Packers in the fourth round (89th overall) of the 1988 NFL draft. In 2006, Cecil guided safety Chris Hope to a career-high 128 tackles with five interceptions and played a key role in the development of starting nickel back Cortland Finnegan. Robertson transitions to the coaching ranks after being the Titans Director of Player Development since 2003. Robertson assisted Titans players with career changeover and off-the-field development through continuing education, financial education and dealing with family matters through player programs. Robertson staff won the Winston and Shell Award in 2006 for its innovation and commitment to player development in the NFL. Before entering the front office, Robertson logged a 12-year career at safety, playing 10 of those years with the Oilers/Titans. A fourth-round selection by the Oilers out of Iowa State in 1991, Robertson was named First Team All-Pro in 1993 and 1997.
