Woodburn Baptist Church Franklin Campus celebrating 4th anniversary, changing name

As part of its fourth anniversary celebration on Sept. 15, Woodburn Baptist Church Franklin Campus will unveil its new name.

The church at 822 Blackjack Road will now be called Franklin Community Church, a mission of Woodburn Baptist Church.

The Franklin site is part of Woodburn Baptist Church's 20/20 Vision to plant 20 churches by 2020.

"God has done a great work at the Franklin Campus and is continuing to do so as the Franklin Community Church carries on the same 20/20 vision but with a new beginning," said the Rev. Tim Harris, pastor of Woodburn Baptist Church.

"The shift to ‘mission' status is a positive step as the congregation in Franklin moves toward its own eventual independence," Harris said. "Originally, the church plant was established as a second campus of the congregation at Woodburn. We adopted a ‘multi-site' model, with the separate campuses functioning as one church in two locations.

"Following the Spirit's leading and responding to the growth and success of the Franklin campus, the deacon body (comprised of men from both campuses) laid out a path to autonomy for the Franklin congregation. Our goal is for Franklin to reach the point of maturity and missional integrity in another 18 to 24 months. The new name --Franklin Community Church -- will help establish the congregation's identity as it grows in distinction from the Woodburn congregation. Both the Franklin Community Church and the Woodburn Baptist Church are committed to future partnership and fellowship -- and eventual church planting in new locations."

Pastor Eric Walker said he and the congregation at Franklin Community Church are excited about helping fulfill the vision.

"Only God can do what we have been seeing these last four years at the Franklin campus," Walker said. "Even though we know that all of this is the work of God, I still believe God uses people to fulfill his mission, and none of this is possible without our pastor Tim Harris following the vision God gave him four years ago to see 20 churches planted by 2020 and a church like our Woodburn Campus that grabbed hold of that vision, but I truly know that it takes a church like ours that is made up of people who are truly on fire for Jesus and not just on fire for Him but they are on fire to follow Him in fulfilling the Great Commission. It takes a church like ours that has a special zeal, passion and commitment to see the lost being saved, lives being changed and a community being restored through Christ and His church. I don't know what we will see next, but I do know we can expect to see God move!"

The Franklin Community Church will celebrate its anniversary and new beginning with one service at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 at the church followed by a potluck lunch and fellowship at 12:30 p.m. at Franklin Community Park. There will be no Sunday School or evening worship on Sept. 15.

Regular Sunday worship times are 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and evening worship at 6. Wednesday night prayer meeting, Bible study and youth/children activities begin at 6.
