The Kentucky State Police will be stepping up highway patrol activities and traffic enforcement during "Operation Safe Driver". The federal program begins Oct. 20th and runs through Oct. 26th. The program is designed to promote a safe driving environment for both commercial and passenger vehicles on KY roadways; increasing police presence along high crash corridors and those areas with heavy commercial traffic. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers and Road
Troopers will be observing operators of these vehicles; enforcing both state and federal traffic regulations placing an emphasis on critical safety items such as speeding, hours of service, alcohol usage, following too close, and fatigued driving. The Kentucky State Police would like to remind operators of cars, trucks and motorcycles to drive with care around commercial trucks; leaving more space for these vehicles to stop and maneuver on the roadway.
Motorists are also encouraged to report unsafe vehicles by dialing 9-1-1 and giving the location, direction of travel and plate number of the vehicle they observe. For more information on this and many other safety programs the public is encouraged to visit the KSP website at www.kentuckystatepolice.org
