I’ve been asked by some people what the official snowfall totals are so far for the winter season in Bowling Green.

Here are some quick facts:

Bowling Green was off to a late start for any accumulating snow. No measurable snow was reported for December or January. Those two months have kept us below normal so far, especially January, where normal snowfall for that month alone averages near four inches.

As of Friday, February 16th, we are up to 2.9 inches of snow (since Dec. 1st 2006, even back to July 1st 2006). Keep in mind we’ve also had several days of trace/non-measurable snowfall. Our first measurable snowfall occurred just two weeks ago on Friday, February 2nd with 1.9 inches.

Comparing to exactly this time last year, we were already up to 7.5 inches. Five of those inches came from the first half of February alone. So, for you snow lovers out there, I’m sorry to report that we’re only up to about one-third of where we were on this date last year. Normal values (using years 1971 to 2000) have Bowling Green receiving 7.9 inches since July 1st. Last year would be considered generally average snowfall up to this date. However, this year we can definitely say we are quite below normal, at least up to mid-February. There’s still a decent amount of time left where we could see some more significant snow. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hopefully we’ll get some more snow coming up… there’s a good chance for some accumulating snow this weekend!
