Tony Lindsey and the Son Rhea Foundation recently donated stringed instruments, valued at $3,000, to Bowling Green City Schools. The donation allows 29 additional students the opportunity to participate in strings instruction.

Currently, over 250 students in grades 4-8 are learning to play stringed instruments. Patrick O’Rourke, Bowling Green City School’s newly hired strings director, teaches elementary students twice weekly and Junior High students daily.

The recent donation marks the second time in two years the Son Rhea foundation has assisted the children of Bowling Green City Schools and the community’s growing strings program. The donations, totaling $7,800, allow over 70 students to learn to play instruments each year and for years to come. These students now have the opportunity to have instrumental instruction that they may or may not receive otherwise.

According to the Son Rhea website, the Son Rhea Foundation was established in year 2000 as a non-profit corporation to help ensure that the arts flourish in Bowling Green and surrounding Southern Kentucky communities.

The Son Rhea Foundation believes giving children the opportunity to participate in music and art will not only enhance their appreciation of the fine arts but will enrich their lives and guarantee future generations similar opportunities.
