Riley Miller, an eighth grade student at Drakes Creek Middle School, has been named one of Kentucky's two winners in the 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. The awards program is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

As a state honoree along with Katelyn Bowles of Mt. Sterling, Riley will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip in May to Washington, D.C., where she will join the top two honorees (one middle school and one high school) from each of the other states and the District of Columbia for several days of national recognition events. Ten of the 102 honorees will be named America's top youth volunteers for 2008.
