Damon Tabor, principal at Rockfield Elementary School for the past nine years, has retired after 30 years in public education. Tabor, a former teacher and coach in the Simpson County school system, took over as Rockfield's principal in 1999. He replaced Everett Leasor, who had been Rockfield's principal since 1974.

During Tabor's tenure, Rockfield underwent a major renovation in 2002 that added 13,000 square feet to the building. The renovation added a new library, a computer lab, seven classrooms, and office space. New gym bleachers and a climbing wall were added during the summer of 2005.

Tabor's tenure as principal was also a time of progress in academics at the school on Russellville Road. Rockfield has made steady progress on the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS) academic assessment. The school's non-adjusted CATS accountability index in 2007 was 103.0, putting Rockfield in the "proficient" category (defined as an index of 100 or better) ahead of schedule. The state goal is for all schools to reach proficiency by the year 2014.
