New school planned for Richardsville

The Warren County Board of Education is moving forward with plans for a new Richardsville Elementary School building that will replace the existing building.

The new Richardsville Elementary will be built behind the existing school, which dates to 1946. The design calls for a two-story building of 78,000 square feet capable of accommodating 550 students and with room for expansion. The current enrollment at Richardsville is approximately 440 students.

The building will be energy efficient, utilizing many of the efficiencies that were built into the Alvaton Elementary and Plano Elementary buildings constructed in recent years. The new school will be built using Insulated Concrete Forms, and it will utilize daylighting and other efficiencies.

Thomas Richards was the first to come over from Cambridgeshire, Eng. in 1813. Many of his children settled in Richardsville and Riverside, my Aunt Erdean Richards, taught at Riverside in 1918 as well as my Grandmother before the school was built.

My Aunt taught school in Riverside in 1918 and my Grandmother, Johnnie Berry Richards taught at Mt. Pisgah in 1922 . I am so pleased the schools have progressed so very much since then. Very happy for Richardsville system.

Change is a total part of one's growth and change for kids is so easy. It will be a great transition for all. My grandparents were the first settlers to settle in Richardsville, thus getting it's name, Richardsville, Methodist preacher from England.

This school is what richardsville has needed for a long time.It is state of the art and will be very energy efficient. Some people are going to complain because they are so used to things being the same for years that they can not stand change.

Generic? This will be a cutting-edge school, and there's nothing generic about it. Plans are for it to be a "Net Zero" building that incorporates solar panels to generate electricity.

This reminds me a lot of Warren East Middle for some reason.

I hate to see the current school building go since it is one of few landmarks left in Richardsville. It is sad enough that the Green River Union Church fell into desrepair & had to be torn down.

I hate the way the new building looks so generic. It looks like it could be any other school in any other community. Bristow's is probobly going to look just like ours! Yes, we needed a new one, but did we have to give up individuality?

Wow! What a great-looking school. Kudos to the school board for making this happen. It will be great for the Richardsville community.
