The Kentucky Mavericks Press Conference
The Kentucky Mavericks Professional Basketball team held a press conference Friday July 11th announcing that they are in South Central Kentucky and here to stay. The owner Jason Smith said that he plans to be here for a long time and is very excited about the positive response the team is getting from community. The General Manager and Head of Basketball Operations Jay Sills, a local business owner talked about how thrilling it was when he was contacted by Jason Smith about the team. He also commented on the fact that he has contacted officials of Western Kentucky University about hosting games at Diddle Arena and the response was very positive. He added that next week he has a meeting with WKU officials and hopes to work out the details so the Mavericks can start selling tickets and signing on sponsors.

The Mayor of Bowling Green, Elaine Walker opened the conference by introducing the owner Jason Smith, but first the Mayor talked briefly about the economic impact the team will have in south central Kentucky estimating that the Mavericks will bring well over one million in revenues to the area. She also expressed her excitement with the team coming to the community and even mentioned a possible arena in the future. Warren County is becoming the athletic center of south central Kentucky and the Mavericks basketball team will be a major player in this process.
