Greenwood wins state championship

Greenwood High School has won the 2007 state championship in fast-pitch softball. The Lady Gators won all five of their games in the state tournament and defeated Ryle 4-0 in the championship game on June 9. It was the first state championship in softball for Greenwood, which was state runner-up in 1997.

Junior Rachel Riley, the winning pitcher in all five games, was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

The Lady Gators defeated Christian County, Louisville Butler, North Laurel, Scott County and Ryle to win the championship. Greenwood finished with a record of 40 wins and only five losses.
