BGGreen Partnership for a Sustainable Community is a campus-community network of citizens working to build a sustainable community in Bowling Green and the region. We support the goals of environmental stewardship, economic prosperity, social and economic justice, and community empowerment.
Meetings
After requesting their preferences from more members, there appears to be an even split in preferred meeting times/dates. Let’s try alternating by month, with dates/times preset as follows: Sun. Sept. 9 @ 6:30p; Tues. Oct. 9 @ 5:00p; Sun. Nov. 11 @ 6:30p; Tues. Dec. 11 @ 5:00p Mark your calendars! At the Dec. meeting we’ll reevaluate and set meeting times/dates for after the New Year.

Stop by Bread & Bagels, Inc. (871 Broadway) TODAY to put in your bid for one or several of the treasures created during the Trash to Treasures event, or just come to see the amazing results! Friday evening is the cutoff for bidding, then pick up and pay for your treasures on Saturday.
Send your ideas for naming the first anniversary to our kickoff event being planned for Oct. 18. First submission: Earthlights! – but we want lots to choose from. Send ideas to Ron at mysus@astralmagic.net
A local solar tour is being planned for Oct. 6, as part of the National Solar Tour. A small grant proposal was submitted for funding assistance, but more help is needed with organizing and promotions. If you’re interested and want to be involved, contact nancy.givens@wku.edu.
The House passed the New Direction for Energy Independence, National Security, and Consumer Protection Act - Vote Passed (241-172, 20 Not Voting) This bill would require utility companies to produce 15 percent of their electricity from wind, solar power and other renewable sources and calls for the gradual reduction of using fossil fuels to generate electricity. Rep. Ron Lewis voted NO. In the fall the provisions of the House and Senate bills will be reconciled; President Bush has threatened to veto this proactive bill!

The people who put on the annual Bioneers Conference have started a new website focused on environmental education that features news and articles directly relevant to educators. Among other things, the site includes sample lesson plans and curricula from collegiate courses and associated materials, as well as discussion guides on some popular speeches and presentations given at the Bioneers conference.
BGGreen is a membership supported organization. The suggested annual membership fee is $10-50, based on income. Make checks out to BGGreen, c/o Cynthia Sprouse and mail to BGGreen, PO Box 131, BG, KY 42102-0131.
