Let’s go to the HOP!
Yes, let’s go to the HOP! Would you like to experience a night with family and friends, enjoying great music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s? Then break out your poodle skirts and bobby socks or roll up those jeans and throw on a white t-shirt and join us at the SOCK HOP to benefit area kids!
Family Resource and Youth Services Centers serving students and their families in Barren County Schools and the Glasgow Independent School District will be hosting this fun filled event and Centers are hoping that the Sock Hop will be a time when the entire family can come out and enjoy a great time and raise much needed funds to provide supplies to area children as they prepare to return to school in August. In addition to the great music and dancing there will be some fabulous door prizes given away during the evening and the Boys and Girls Club will provide concessions for everyone's enjoyment. The Sock Hop will be held at the Barren County Family YMCA in Glasgow on Saturday, July 17th from 7:00 pm until 10:00. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for adults and $20 for an entire family.
Sock Hops were very popular back in the 50’s and back then you were asked to take your shoes off before the big dance in the gymnasium but for our Sock Hop you can keep your shoes on if you want, but you will have a hard time staying still as we bring back those great dances that we all loved to dance to! Not a dancer? No need to worry--dancers from the Corvette City Bop & Dance Club will be on hand to show everyone how!
This fundraiser is one of the many things that Family Resource and Youth Services Centers are doing to ensure that all children come to school healthy, safe, and prepared to learn. FRYSC’s are school based centers that were established in the early 90’s and work in partnership with schools and the community to provide services that address the physical, psychological, and social needs of children and their families. The partnerships created are critical in efforts on behalf of students to promote early learning and successful transition to school, academic achievement and well being, and graduation and transition into adult life.
As the summer break ends and preparation begins for another exciting school year all parents are encouraged to continue to be an active part in your child’s education as this is an essential part of student success.
So mark your calendar and make plans to join us for a great time all the while supporting a great cause. Proceeds from the Sock Hop will support Project School Days which provides supplies to area children!
